Studio Nine Architects

Our studio was purpose built and designed 11 years ago, transforming a standalone cottage into the 2 storey, commercial office space it is today. When designing the building, key consideration was given to the existing built fabric in and around the site. With light industrial buildings lining the streets, the existing streetscape is made up of a lot of concrete walls with steel framed sawtooth roofs – the palette for our building is a direct reflection of this.

Our studio space is located upstairs in a singular space that stretches from King William Street to the south, to Little King William Street on the north. Getting good daylight penetration into the heart of a building that is 15m wide and 40m deep has been addressed through the use of a central courtyard. The courtyard floods our boardroom, entry staircase and meeting rooms with natural light and ventilation, creating an airy and open, light-filled space.
