Our Commitment to Sustainability

Introducing our Sustainability Committee — Justin Cucchiarelli, Nick Longford & Laura Morris.

As design leaders, our studio is continuously pursuing change and aiming to think more holistically about architecture and design. Our purpose is to design a better future for people, place and planet. We have an ethical responsibility as designers to decrease the impact the practice of architecture has on our planet and decrease our own operational impact.

Our studio became carbon neutral certified in 2021/2022 through the government backed organisation Climate Active, the most rigorous and credible carbon neutral certification available in Australia. Our Climate Active Certification sends a clear message to our team, clients, consultants and stakeholders, that our business is committed to sustainability, innovation, and industry progression.

Becoming carbon neutral was born out of our commitment to being a signatory of the global Architects Declare movement and is the first key milestone in our sustainability journey.

Our Sustainability Committee lead our studio in improving sustainability outcomes both internally and externally. They meet monthly to ensure we are meeting our targets to reduce our carbon footprint, measuring our emissions, taking action to reduce where possible and offsetting the remaining emissions through our studio-selected climate action projects.

Last year our carbon footprint was successfully decreased by approximately 10% per staff member, with the aim to progress this further in the coming years.

The committee is responsible for managing and implementing sustainable initiatives within our studio with the help of other team members, participating in industry initiatives and events, developing material and specification guides, assisting our clients in their transition towards more environmental practices and collaborating with local and interstate designers and industry bodies to not only develop Adelaide’s but also Australia’s standard of sustainable design.

As the next key milestone in our sustainability journey, the committee is currently developing a Sustainability Action Plan that will enable better sustainability outcomes for our projects.
