Brougham Place Uniting Church

The Brougham Place Uniting Church project addressed urgent structural concerns to one of Adelaide’s most prominent heritage landmarks

Heritage034

Cracking and movement in the south-western corner of the church required the installation of new concrete pad footings beneath the existing masonry walls—necessary to stabilise the building’s shallow and failing foundations.

Studio Nine Architects worked in collaboration with structural engineers and heritage architect Andrew Stevens to carefully design and document the underpinning works, executed in stages to maintain the building’s structural integrity while minimising disturbance. Repair and bracing of the damaged balustrade, internal and external crack repair, render patching, and roof drainage improvements formed part of the broader conservation response. Façade cleaning and internal plasterwork restoration helped return the space to its original condition, ensuring safety and longevity without interrupting the ongoing use of the church by the community.

Delivered with care and technical precision, the works preserved the building’s historic value while securing its structure for continued public use.
