46 Fullarton Road

Reimagining a disused 1960s commercial building, 46 Fullarton Road transforms a heritage-listed site into a contemporary workplace destination — blending architectural innovation with heritage sensitivity

Previously vacant, non-compliant, and constrained by a restrictive two-storey planning zone, the project called for a solution that would unlock its potential while meeting the client’s need for increased lettable area, universal accessibility, and long-term viability.

Our adaptive reuse strategy introduced a recessed third-storey addition with a rooftop terrace — carefully scaled and setback to respect the building’s character and planning constraints. A new street-facing canopy redefines the entry, while relocating the stair and lift core externally maximised the usable internal floor area and resolved key compliance issues.

A bespoke ground floor fitout for the South Australian Cochlear Implant Centre anchors the building’s revitalisation — delivering a state-of-the-art clinical space that reflects the organisation’s specialist needs and strong community connection.
