Both these projects are State Heritage-listed and forming part of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital complex.

For the Angas Building, a staged approach was implemented to address critical structural concerns. Stage one focused on the northern gable of the western façade, where a pronounced outward lean required a bespoke internal steel bracing system. Designed to work within the constraints of the roof cavity, the concealed framework ensured the structural integrity of the building was retained without compromising its heritage fabric. Stages two and three mirrored this methodology for the south-western and southern gables, incorporating sandstone cleaning, masonry consolidation, render and crack repair, re-pointing, biocide treatment, and careful restoration of timberwork. Finials were delicately removed and reinstated, with new roof cappings and flashings installed as part of the broader conservation works.

In parallel, urgent façade conservation works were undertaken to the adjacent Allan Campbell Building, following a comprehensive dilapidation survey. Works included poulticing and desalination treatment, repair of verandahs, timberwork and slate steps, chimney stabilisation, leadlight window conservation and perimeter paving. Specialist techniques such as re-carving of sandstone detailing and gilded inscription reinstatement formed part of a sensitive approach to repair, stabilisation and aesthetic improvement.

Together, the projects address critical conservation needs while celebrating the original architectural detailing of these landmark buildings, securing their legacy for future generations.
