With no significant restoration works undertaken in over two decades, urgent conservation works were delivered to the southern and eastern façades of the State Heritage-listed residence at 64 Pennington Terrace

Following a detailed dilapidation survey, Studio Nine Architects led the documentation and delivery of conservation works in collaboration with heritage architect Andrew Stevens and specialist contractors.
The scope included façade cleaning, stone and render repair, desalination and crack remediation, extensive re-pointing, and the replacement of failing roof plumbing. Deteriorated timberwork particularly to the balustrades, ornate verandah elements and high-level gables was reconstructed and repainted, with care taken to retain and restore original detailing. Hard mortar was removed and replaced with appropriate material to support the breathability and longevity of the stonework, while the reinstatement of the verandah’s structural integrity addressed immediate safety and maintenance concerns.
Executed with a focus on value, efficiency and long-term preservation, the works have significantly improved the appearance and condition of the residence while safeguarding its fabric in line with conservation best practice.
