FAME Flexible School rethinks traditional learning environments, creating a new purpose-built campus that feels more like a community than a conventional school. Rooted in trauma-informed, flexible education principles, the school fosters individual learning, student wellbeing and community connection.
Students and staff were invited to co-create a shared space where everyone had a voice in decision making and establishing working agreements. Through open discussion and workshops, the consultation process shaped the initial masterplan, centering around inclusivity, student-led learning and holistic wellbeing support system — key to the school’s cultural identity.
Learning communities extend across the site, creating a neighbourhood-like setting with ‘side streets’ and pathways forming fluid in-between spaces. The campus consists of six key nodes — Administration, Middle School, Senior School, Music, Art & Technology and a Central Hub. Each node offers a variety of spaces that support both independent study and group collaboration, giving young people the flexibility to choose how they interact and engage.
Specialist spaces for music, hospitality and technology support creative, vocational and hands-on learning, while the mix of open-plan and retreat areas ensure a balance between connection and quiet reflection. A central plaza, basketball court and covered gathering space further enhance community engagement. The integration of outdoor spaces and interconnecting doors increases accessibility and usability, reinforcing the campus as a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Since completion, the school has exceeded expectations in its adaptability, with spaces being used fin ways beyond their initial intent. The layout enhances duty of care, fosters engagement and supports a broad range of programs, strengthening the school’s vision for flexible education. The campus has received overwhelming positive feedback, with students and staff expressing pride in their environment and its role in supporting wellbeing. By prioritising student voice, agency and choice, FAME Flexible School is more than a place of learning — it is a community that fosters personal growth and belonging.
