LEAD Award Recognition | FAME Flexible School

FAME0049

Our very own FAME Flexible School has received a Commendation for 'New Campus with Educational Facilities' at the recently held national Learning Environments Australasia Design (LEAD) Awards in Brisbane.

The LEAD Awards recognise outstanding learning environments across Australasia that exemplify innovation, purpose-driven design, and powerful collaboration between architects, educators, and communities.

"FAME Flexible School embodies a programmatic architectural style, where design was driven by the school’s unique educational program and student needs.

The educational brief, developed through extensive consultation identified key objectives: fostering inclusivity, young person-directed learning, and holistic wellbeing.

The response to these objectives, shaped the campus into a neighbourhood of learning nodes, fostering both individual and communal spaces. This approach is evident in the purpose-built music, hospitality, and technology workshops tailored to specific learning outcomes, and the integration of outdoor retreats and reset zones for student well-being.

The outdoor spaces and retreat areas support student wellbeing, recognizing the link between physical environment and emotional resilience. The central plaza, basketball court, and eco-gardens reinforcing the idea of the school as a community hub.

The project includes several good sustainability outcomes including a bio-retention swale north of the site and carbon-neutral external brickwork.

The new graphic identity has been cleverly incorporated into the Architectural language. The use of the graphics within the interior design informs wayfinding and creates a strong visual identity for the school.

Simple robust materiality paired with playful Architecture, interior and graphic design has resulted in a light filled and welcoming facility. The design successfully prioritises flexibility, allowing for diverse teaching methodologies and student-directed learning."

Congratulations to S9 Project Team — John Galluccio, Tony Zappia, Anthea Perkas & Tenielle Wildman!

Transparent“The overall design of the school has positively impacted the school’s strategic planning going forward. We are now able to offer a range of different programs and cater to the many different learning styles of our young people. Overall, the school has exceeded staff and young person’s expectations.
