The Pimpala Primary School redevelopment project was allocated funding to help with the redevelopment of facilities at Pimpala Primary School which will include the replacement of aged infrastructure to support contemporary learning and teaching.
Due to the school’s existing setback from Vanstone Avenue, we worked to achieve a design and architectural statement which improves the school’s street presence, providing a new focal point for the school to make a positive statement about public education and improve connection with the community.
The staging of the building works, while maintaining accommodation / classroom numbers throughout the project, presented challenges for the team as well as mitigating the disruption of asbestos removal within the existing buildings. This resulted in a staged approach to the works involving a key upgrade of services and infrastructure to the school site ahead of the main building works. A high level of consultation was a key component of our planning process with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, Department for Education, consultant team and the school.
The design of the buildings also facilitated the school’s requirement for a robust and durable façade that was both cost-effective and provided the school with a refreshed identity.
The proposed works consists of three new buildings over the site including a new Administration building and two classroom buildings that also continue to facilitate the school’s strong Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) and Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden programs.
The two classroom buildings include teaching spaces that range from specialised teaching to large classroom collaboration, providing teachers and students with the flexibility to choose how they interact and engage with the adjacent classrooms and the central landscape courtyard.
A strong landscape narrative in a central courtyard to the buildings aims to connect each building through playful hard and soft landscaping, a water-play area, seating and outdoor play and retreat spaces.
The project is currently under construction.
