As an evolution of the well-known Adelaide brand East End Cellars, this fifth venue by the group focuses on the dining experience first and foremost, complimented by casual drinking and dining areas.
At its heart, the central marble bar greets guests upon arrival, anchoring the space. The wine room, with its ds dark timber finishes, creates an intimate setting with booth seating and high tables. Equally a key feature of the design as it is a core function of the business, generous integrated wine storage surrounds patrons, creating an immersive experience and offering a selection unmatched by its neighbours.
The dining room presents a lighter ambience, with purposefully restrained textured walls forming a backdrop for rotating feature artworks. Full-height windows connect the interior to the surrounding Festival Plaza precinct, extending into a generous alfresco area designed for year-round dining comfort.
The expansive open kitchen and transformation of a narrow space into a temperature-controlled wine vault are visible from key vantage points, enhancing the theatre of the venue and connecting patrons to the culinary experience.
Originally planned as three separate tenancies, the project required meticulous spatial planning to maximise functionality while maintaining a cohesive flow. Base building constraints, including mechanical ducts, basement access, and door connections, were carefully navigated to optimise aesthetics and usability. Strategic alfresco design, influenced by prevailing winds, integrates seamlessly with the existing canopy and plaza, ensuring all-weather dining flexibility. Custom planter boxes create a natural buffer while contributing to the precinct’s broader landscape design.
Designed for longevity, STN-RD’s material palette emphasises durability and timeless appeal. Engineered timber, natural stone, and textured render provide a robust foundation, while flexible furnishings and the curated rotating artwork allow the venue to evolve over time.
